Home Decor Ideas You Can't Miss This Fall Season
You’ve been storing them for nine months, and now it’s time to brush the dust off your fall décor. So, scavenge through your cramped garage, crawl space, attic, basement, or wherever you like to keep your seasonal accessories, and make way for an autumn overhaul.
Start with your front porch. It's the first thing about your Lake Wallenpaupack home that your visitors (and you!) will see before entering your house. And, it’s the only part of your home many people will see, like those making regular deliveries for mail, newspapers, flyers, packages, etc. So, focus your biggest efforts on the entryway.
Presenting Pumpkins
This is the perfect place to display some plump prizes you and your family find on a trip to a local pumpkin patch. Don't worry if there isn't a farm in your area. You can pick some up at any local market. As it gets closer to Halloween, you can even swap these out with ones you've carved! To prevent a bunch of rotting husks on your front step, replace the fruit regularly.
Fun fact: While orange is the predominant pumpkin color, they come in a lot of other colors too. You can find white, blue, green, yellow, red, and even tan ones!
Tin is In
Alongside your perfectly presented pumpkins, set metal flower pots of varying sizes. The key here is to match the tone, but not necessarily the size, of the tins. These give your porch a more rustic feel. Inside them, opt for unique florals, such as protea or coxcomb. They have some ornate textures, as well as pink- and orange-colored flowers, representing the traditional hues of the season. This is an especially nice touch to see if you’re browsing Lake Wallenpaupack lakefront homes for sale.
Can’t Beat Wheat
If you can only muster the energy for a single autumn decoration, it has to be a door wreath. Make one out of wheat stems for your lakefront property.
Things You’ll Need: wreath hanger, 16” wreath frame, paddle wire, wire or cable cutters, bundled wheat sheaves (you can also use stems to make bundles), and optional accessories, such as floral pins or burlap ribbon.
Steps:
- Choose a spot on the wreath form to tie the paddle wire. Make sure it’s tied tightly.
- The wire needs to go around the spot several times. Then, put it to the side. Don’t cut it.
- If you’re using bundled wheat, you can skip this step. If you’re using stems, make bundles. Fuller wreaths require big bundles, whereas more dainty wreaths require small bundles.
- Pick any bundle you like and affix it to the frame at an angle. It shouldn’t be straight up and down.
- Secure the wheat with the paddle wire. Trim off the extra wheat stems.
- Add more wheat bundles. With each one, alternate the direction so that some face inward while others face outward.
- Cut the wire and secure it once you’ve used all your bundles.
- If there are gaps in the wire, attach small wheat bundles or single stems to cover them.
- Add your accessories. For instance, make a bow out of your burlap ribbon and attach it with the floral pins.
