Spring Cleaning Tips for Vacation Property

If you're like most vacation homeowners, you've got your property booked through the summer. You've done the advertising, you've sold the space, and you've made a nice profit -- now it's time to deliver on the promises you've made to your clients and get your vacation home ready for them to enjoy.

Hopefully, you've kept up with maintenance throughout the year and only have a few touch ups left to get the property ready, but whether you have, or you haven't, your goal for each stay is the same. You want to make sure your guests have everything they need to have a first-class stay so that they become repeat customers. Here's how to get things ready for guests so that they keep coming back!

Clean All Kitchen Appliances

When someone chooses a vacation home for their trip, chances are that they've dedicated most of their budget toward getting the best property that they can find. They probably aren't going to be spending much of their funds on restaurants when they have a full-service kitchen waiting for them; in fact, it's common for these guests to prepare their own groceries and dine like royalty for a fraction of the cost.

Toward that end, you need to make sure that the kitchen is impeccably clean when your guests arrive. Your refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, and oven need to look like they've never been used, and your sink needs to be stocked with cleaning supplies. Remember, the kitchen is the room people spend the most time in, so keeping it clean is a must.

Handle the Beds

If the kitchen is the room where people spend most of their time, the bedroom is a close second. These rooms are just as important as the kitchen because your guests will be trying to get good sleep in a location that's foreign to them, and they'll need to be able to make themselves feel as comfortable as possible. The best way to give them that feeling of home is to wash all bedding and give them fresh, comfortable pillows and a recently rotated mattress. The closer the bed feels to brand new, the easier it will be for guests to get a good night's sleep!

Power Washing the Exterior

If the weather is nice, most people who have a vacation home will want to use it for grilling and relaxing outside. With that in mind, you need to make the backyard and deck as inviting as possible. The exterior needs to be cleaned and checked for any flaws, such as exposed nails or chipped paint. These might not make a big deal to your customers, but if a guest catches a shirt on a nail, it will absolutely be a point of contention. Ideally, you need to make sure that your exterior area is as clean and free of flaws as possible before guests arrive.

A vacation home isn't cheap to maintain, but if you do your job well, you'll more than make up for the work you put into the home when your guests enjoy themselves so much that they either come back next year or tell their friends about your property, inspiring other families to book with you. Remember, your competition isn't just other vacation homes, it's all the homes for sale in Lake Wallenpaupack, PA. If you can convince your guests that yours is better, you'll put your rental property in great shape! For more information about lake wallenpaupack real estate, contact Pete Helms with Davis R.
